Ideas can come from weird places and during weird times. This idea came as I was walking down the street one day a few years after I got out of college. I was skipping along minding my own business when I was shocked out of my shorts by the very violent barking of what turned out to be a very small dog. Small and feisty, I might add.
After my fear of being chewed to pieces passed and I got my feet going back down the street, I realized I was approaching a stop sign. One where Fido and I would soon be sharing another special moment, no doubt.
Since small dogs are often owned by seniors I guess I should not have been surprised by what happened next. Fido was looking at me like I had stolen his chew toy and proceeded to pursue his target (me) by clawing like crazy to get out of the car through the window. The owner, a slight woman as best as I could estimate was struggling mightily to keep her pup from launching itself into the airspace between it and I.
Thankfully I lived to tell this story and gain something from it. My thought was to create a new product called Doggie Window™ - a porthole for dogs. It fits within the car's window frame and a partially rolled up window. The hole would be sized for the dog to fit their heads out but that's it.
Everyone wins here:
1. Passers by are not at serious risk for projectile puppies
2. Dog owners are not distracted by the fear that Fido will leap to their death
3. Dogs, like Fido, can enjoy the breeze of a drive in the country without the hassle of their owner tugging away at their collar
1. There are a lot of cars/window shapes out there - how many items would have to be launched to fit all those cars - not to mention all those dogs?
2. Would the extra window have to be removed every time you park?
3. What holes can you poke in this idea?
Your comments are appreciated! Would you buy this for your dog?
